Springwell Running Club - Press Release 2nd March 2025
The past week has been a quiet one for Springwell’s runners with regards participation in races. There were 5 km and 10 mile race options in Bundoran over the weekend, while Carlingford Half Marathon also took place on Saturday past. However, many will have been saving their legs for the Derry 10 miler that will take place on Saturday 8th March, or one of several races that will take place over St Patrick’s weekend. We still had our usual large numbers out at parkrun, as well as a charity run in Cushendall organised by Glens Runners.
Glens Runners Charity Run/Walk
The annual Glens Runners Charity Run / Walk took place on Sunday morning, when there were 15, 11, 9, 7, 5, 3 or 2 mile options available to participants. There was a 15 mile route and attendees got to choose their starting point along the route depending on the distance that they wanted to cover, with everyone then finishing at St Mary’s Parish Church in Cushendall.
Jonathan Huddleston and Shaun Carton made the trip to complete the 15 mile route, while Gemma Wray opted for the 5 mile route.
The 15 mile route was a challenging course over the mountains to begin with, until at approximately halfway the runners and walkers started a gradual nice descent past Cushendun and into Cushendall, where a great spread awaited the walkers and runners to refuel after their efforts.

Parkrun
It was another busy Saturday for the Springwell parkrunners with 67 of the club out at 14 different parkruns, which was super to see. The high tide and soft sand on the east strand at Portrush didn't deter runners, with 22 club members turning up to slog along the beach on a lovely spring morning.
Elsewhere, 8 of the club’s members took part in the elusive Lower Drummans parkrun, and some of the Ballymoney and Limavady crew headed to The Fishermans Walk in Portglenone.
Nicola and Alan White were at Princes Park in Liverpool, but Barry McBride wins the 'farthest travelled' award yet again as he visited Waitangi parkrun in New Zealand this week.
